E-file Information
Due to the mandate put in place by the IRS, Tiernan & Associates is required to e-file all tax returns. This does not apply to the clients who have Tiernan & Associates complete only the business portion of their return.
Here are three MAJOR benefits of e-file:
- Accuracy: Your information in our system is sent directly to the IRS computers. There is no chance of errors associated with the input of information by a person or a scanner if sent by paper.
- Acknowlegement: The IRS acknowleges the receipt of your return within 48 hours of us submitting the return. If mailed, there is no acknowlgement unless you pay for certified mail.
- E-filing allows you to receive your refund in approximately 2 weeks compared to the 6-8 weeks if sending your return by mail.
- E-Filing is so accurate that you are 99% less likely to receive any notices from the IRS. The number of returns being E-Filed continues to grow every year.
- 112 million people used e-file for tax year 2010! This is a 13.6% increase over tax year 2010.
- In most cases you will receive your refund in approximately 2 weeks.
- You only need to review, print and sign Form 8879. Then mail, fax or e-mail it to us, and we will do the rest.
- The error rate on e-file returns is less than 1%, and the IRS provides an official acknowledgement that your return was received.
- What if I owe? - You can authorize an electronic funds withdrawal from your savings or checking account or use a credit card. Or, if you wish we can mail you a voucher and you can mail the payment. At IRS and in most states you can file early and pay any balance due by April 15.
It is our firm commitment to keep these costs as low as possible, and yet provide the highest degree of quality work that can be expected. Our cost is highly competitive with the national chain type of tax services. There is an additional charge if you wish to file a paper return in the mail due to the extra costs, and time involved.
